An Abraham Moment

In Genesis 12 there is a key plot point in God’s redemptive story. God tells Abraham to leave everything and begin traveling. He doesn’t know where or how long it will take to get there. All Abraham knows are the promises made to him by a God he is not very familiar with. He also knows that he must obey. Astonishingly, Abram picks up and leaves Haran for an unknown future.

Every great story has what I call an Abraham moment. One where we must follow God’s call in blind faith, trusting in Him when all else doesn’t make sense. It is with this in mind that my wife, Beverley, and I decided to launch Leverage Educational Services, LLC. We both entered education in 1986 and have known nothing other than Christian schooling since then. After more than 35 years it can be unsettling to begin a new ministry like this. As Tim Keller says, “It is much easier to believe in God than to trust in God.” So, just like Abraham, it is time to trust the Lord and answer His call.

Using our experience in Christian education as teachers and administrators we feel it is time to support other schools and educators It is the mission of Leverage Educational Services, LLC to support Kingdom Education by providing schools, teachers, parents, and students with the leverage needed to be successful in obeying God’s call. Our ultimate goal is to provide mid-sized and small Christian schools with professional development, teacher training, coaching and analysis and assistance in program development at an affordable price point.

John F. Kennedy once said, “Change is the law of life, and those who look only to the past and present are certain to miss the future.” This quote reminds me of Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” As we enter this period of uncertainty, we are both excited and nervous to start this new venture that I call our Abraham moment and discover how God will use us in the future.
